A Letter To My Son

To my son,
Today you turn twenty-five. I cannot believe how fast these years have passed, and how much you have grown from a little human, into a man of your own.
The day you were born, I held you in my arms and I knew that you were the best thing in my life (along with your sister). I have never stopped smiling. You were the best baby - content and always happy. From early childhood, I knew that you were going to be a caring, emotional, and exceptional human being. In your teens, you took care of me when I struggled to care for myself and never missed taking me to a doctor appointment and helping me get better. You stood by me through tough love, broken hearts, and financial instability. You never once waivered with your kindness and love. I raised you like that!
In the first years of your adult life, you started building your career. At just eighteen, you began building your own life right after graduation. You made me so proud to watch you grow and see all the qualities of life I prepared you for. That makes a mom truly happy. There were times I had to tell you to clean your room (only one time I recall it being extremely messy) but you never complained and you always did as I asked. That too prepared you for adult life.
This past year, you made me even more proud. You bought your first house (I was able to be there to see it), you became a father (I was there to welcome my granddaughter), you received a promotion at work (we talked for hours about it), and you just bought a new car (one that comfortably fits your baby girl). Through it all, you have never swayed from that wonderful young man I have always known you would be.
I cannot tell you how happy I am to see my baby boy growing up. My baby boy that I never wanted to let go of. My baby boy who instantly became my reason to live. You, my dear, are a true blessing to all that know you. I hope you realize how special you are. Don't ever stop being YOU. Don't ever stop being that kind, caring, compassionate, and loving young man you have always been, and continue to grow into. Don't ever stop moving forward.
I will love you until the day I die (and in the afterlife).
To my son... I am so grateful to be your mother. Happy 25th birthday!
Love,
Mom
