What We Had Never Was

WHAT WE HAD NEVER WAS

I thought I loved you

I guess I was wrong

but I stuck with you

weak or strong.

I wondered if

it would ever be true

& if I needed to find

somebody new.

You put me through

a hell of a lot

I tried to be

what I'm not.

I knew you never

seemed to care

if I lived my life

in deep despair.

I decided then

to draw the line

and hoped someday

HE would be mine.

He's a lot better

than you'll ever be

and that means

a lot to me.

You were the one I liked so much

now it's his

sweet tender touch.

My feelings I

don't like to hide

and you keep in

what's deep inside.

He's so much more

to me than you

he makes me happy

you make me blue.

What we had

never was

men and him

that's who does.

That's no promise

and I'm not so sure

but for every hurt

there's a cure.

My love for him

won't tear apart

cuz what we have

comes from the heart.
